Born, raised, and currently entrenched just outside Detroit, Phylum Sinter is the working alias of 29-year-old Christopher Todd.
Self-taught in piano and guitar from an early age, he began meddling with computers in a vaguely musical way in the mid 90s.
After severe overexposure to Detroit Techno, raves, and Berlin’s take on electronic music, he began to drift toward musical structures that are less about moving bodies and more about moving minds.
In 2001, both the creative direction and the name were chosen, and Todd’s focus was aimed at composing songs that are at once familiar and experimental.
Phylum Sinter’s music is innovative and original, and is certainly well in keeping with Detroit’s rich and revolutionary musical history.
